We believed that experienced advisors could work with their clients through video conferencing. We specifically looked for consultants who had decades of campaign experience. Even prior to Covid, we anticipated a future in remote, virtual consulting. So, we added expert advisors who would work virtually with clients. In addition to the online toolkit, clients needed experienced guidance and support. “How could we provide professional expertise in a more effective, efficient, affordable, and equitable way?” ![]() We looked to organizations like TurboTax, Legal Zoom, and WebMD as models for providing professional services of the future. And the Capital Campaign Toolkit was born! The Toolkit provided a complete library of downloadable documents, organized in an accessible, user-friendly way. We saw an opportunity to pull back the curtain on the secretive world of campaign consulting and share all that important campaign information online. For the most part, consultants kept their clients in the dark about how campaigns really worked. Like many professional consultants, capital campaign consultants doled out dribs and drabs of information to their clients and charged high prices to share their knowledge. We had both been in the fundraising business for decades and we were frustrated by the standard consulting models. More than five years ago, we had our first conversation about creating an online toolkit that would guide nonprofit leaders through their capital campaigns.
